Online Casino advertising legal in Malta
A recent judgement from Malta has seen the law that banned any type of advertising for casinos on the island nation to be struck down. The court stated that such a law restricts a casinos right at freedom of expressions and that any laws that are included within the Malta Gaming act are voided.
The was brought to light by Laurence Grech, who was the editor of The Sunday Times, a local newspaper that is based in the nation as he faced charges for the publishing of advertisement for the a local casino called the Oracle Casino. This was at no charge to the casino but he faced the charges anyway. The presiding judge, Justice Gino Camilleri, stated that Grech rights were violated and further stated that those laws that prohibiting the advertising of casinos are illegal.
The Times ran a story regarding the recent ruling and stated “The court has added that the State were the ones who licensed the casinos to operate within Malta and those casinos were open to the public. Therefore any ban on a casino that advertised in Malta was nonsense due to the fact that many who visited the casinos were tourists”
